Project Husk- The drone concept
Project Husk is a long-range surveillance drone that operates in low to medium altitudes. Its main purpose is to assist in locating wildlife or civilians that require assistance during Search and Rescue operations. The main requirements or the Product.Design.Specification of the drone is shown below
P.D.S
Size
Overall length: =<500mm
Diameter: =<100mm
Range and Deployment
Total Range: 40km+
The drone should be reusable
Endurance: 40mins+
Cruise Speed: 80 kmph
Should be deployable from land and aerial platforms
The drone should use a mechanism that makes it easier to transport
Cost
Overall cost must not exceed £500
Manufacturing
The design must be capable of being 3D-printed for the main body structures
All components required must be readily available "off-the-shelf"
In my opinion, the most challenging part of the drone would be equipping it with enough control surfaces, such as ailerons and rudders. Which is why the first concept sketches aim to reduce the number of moving parts, thereby reducing the overall complexity of the control surfaces the drone might use.
The next step to making the prototype would be to create a basic CAD model in order to find the weight of the drone which would allow me to calculate factors such as wing area and required thrust.
